Over the weekend, I went to a Honda/Acura meet in Toronto. I left from Guelph with a few other people/cars from jdmrides.ca
I happen to look in my rearview at one point during our trip on the highway and there was an OPP suv up my ass. We’re all driving normal on the 401. He passes by and checks out everyone’s car. Then he backs off for a bit and comes back. The cherries light up and he ends up pulling me over. I wasn’t worried b/c my car is pretty stock.
cop: how close should you follow the car in front of you
me: two seconds
cop: do you think you were 2 seconds behind the car in front of you?
me: I think so
cop: Really? I don’t. I could barely see your hood (don’t know what that’s supposed to mean). Then he walks around my car. and asks me to turn my steering wheel to the left.
He noticed some rubbing marks on the left front tire from back when I was messing around with my coils to find a good driving height.
Then he tells me my car is too low, and proceeded to take off my plates. He told me I gotta get a safety done, take it to a ministry of transportation office and I’ll get my plates back. I told him there’s some clearance now, and it only used to rub when I was adjusting the ride height. He’s like, “All I needed to see are some rubbing marks”. I couldn’t help but think that they’re still gonna be there after I do a safety. He ignores everything I say, calls a tow truck and I had to pay $200 to get back home.

No tickets or anything so I’m thankful for that. Just a few days without a car, 2 bills out the window and a waste of time. Coulda been worse, I suppose. When I got home, I took another car and went to the meet.
When my car passes safety as it has in the past, I’m gonna try and hassle them to get my money back. I doubt it’ll work but it’s worth a shot.
Below are pics of my fender gaps. I can just squeeze my fingers in between and the tires are not in contact with anything.

The rubbing marks the officer spotted on the left tire were from when I was adjusting my coilovers after purchasing new tires and testing different ride heights. There are no marks on my front right tire… even when I had lowered it all the way. It only rubbed on the left side because of a small dent in the fender. I highlighted the dent and rubbing marks below.
I’ve never had the tires rub while driving on the road with the way the car sits now.
Anyway, hopefully I’ll have the safety done sometime this week.
